Synopsis
It’s the EBERT
& ROEPER of Independent Cinema DVD releases. MovieTalk is a hip,
cutting-edge film review show unlike no other on the planet that will debut
in a primetime slot this June 2004 on the PLUM TV cable network. Prior to the internet, the only way to
physically see clips about a movie were to 1) see the trailer at another
movie, or 2) watch “Ebert & Siskel” (the latter host, dearly departed) –
with the bulk of the titles being reviewed falling into the standard studio
thoroughfare category. True lovers of
the cinema, Ebert & Siskel would often try to mix in independent
releases, but alas, the bulk of the airtime went to major studio releases. Today, the
landscape has greatly changed. In
1970, there were no VCRs, DVDs or Cable Television, for that fact. Today, all of these methods of
distribution are part of the standard business model for any feature, and for
some, the primary means of distribution.
In fact, there are thousands upon thousands of titles that have never
had a theatrical release - some of them worthy, some of them not. Format
In the true
visionary spirit of Independent Film, MovieTalk
is a 30-minute, ongoing, weekly movie review show that focuses primarily on
titles that go Direct-To-DVD (primarily meaning it still allows for the gems of
the major studio art house labels to still be included). However, instead of solely reviewing the
value of each feature presentation, MovieTalk
will review the value of the DVD as a whole – feature presentation, chapters,
menus, special features and bonus footage. The Network
MovieTalk will debut in
a primetime slot this June 2004 on the new PLUM TV cable network. Beginning June 1st, 2004, PLUM
TV will be broadcast in Martha’s Vineyard on Cablevision Channel 76, in The
Hamptons on Comcast Channel 18, and in Nantucket on Adelphia Channel 22. The total in season market for Martha’s
Vineyard, The Hamptons and Nantucket combined is 450,000 and number of
temporary visitors is 2.5 million. Cast
Each show will
be comprised of reviews from two DVD Critics. Ken Cosby (Nephew of Bill Cosby, Screenwriting Professor at
USC, MA in Dramatic Writing from NYU) and Beverly Neufeld (MFA
Screenwriting UCLA, Improv
Instructor, Theater Veteran) are attached to do critiques. |
